Pakistani opposition politician targeted with fabricated remarks on militant group

As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in October 2026 demanding the release of former prime minister Imran Khan, social media posts shared an AI-manipulated video with a false claim it showed the province's Chief Minister Sohail Afridi siding with a militant group in a speech. A review of the original clip shows he did not make the remarks and Meta's AI detection tool has also flagged the video as containing synthetic content.
