Paraguay Swears In Pedro Alliana as President Amid Political Crisis

Pedro Alliana has been sworn in as Paraguay’s new president following the departure of former leader Santiago Peña, who was impeached by lawmakers and resigned amid a banking scandal. Peña has been placed under house arrest over his connection to a local bank collapse that froze millions of accounts and triggered widespread protests. Paraguay is one of Taiwan’s 12 remaining diplomatic allies and its only ally in South America. Taiwan’s foreign ministry says the leadership change will not affect bilateral ties.
