Virginia reproductive rights measure did not legalize abortion 'up to birth'

Americans cast ballots for congressional races as well as local propositions in midterm elections on November 3, 2026 and some social media users claimed Virginia voters elected to legalize abortion "up to birth." This misrepresents the measure which establishes the right to reproductive autonomy in the state constitution while still allowing restrictions on third-trimester abortions for viable pregnancies that do not threaten the health of the person carrying the fetus.
