AI clip of burning church falsely depicted as target of violence in Ethiopia

Dozens of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians were killed by armed groups in Oromia, the country’s most populous region, in October 2026. Social media posts have circulated a clip with claims that it shows a church set on fire during the attacks. However, this is false: the clip was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and although the attacks caused significant unrest, no churches were burned.
