AI image of Imran Khan spreads as emergency rule imposed in ex-PM's stronghold

As Pakistan imposed emergency rule in jailed ex-leader Imran Khan's northwestern stronghold of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an AI-created image of the former prime minister sitting in a jail cell circulated on social media. The layout and furnishings in the cell differ from those seen in an official photo of Khan's actual cell released in June 2024, and a detection tool found it contained an invisible watermark found in AI-generated content.
