Candidates for Kaohsiung Mayor Outline Their Plans in Debate

Candidates for mayor of Kaoshiung, Ko Chih-en of the Kuomintang and Lai Jui-lung of the Democratic Progressive Party, have faced off in a televised debate ahead of the election on November 28. Ko proposed measures to tackle bullying in the public sector, support traditional industries and expand transportation infrastructure, while Lai highlighted plans to develop the AI and semiconductor industries, improve airport facilities and expand social welfare, including subsidies to encourage people to have children. Both candidates also praised current mayor Chen Chi-mai for building a concert economy, with many big-name draws coming to the city to perform in recent years.
