Italian explosion video falsely tied to Canadian military base fire

Condolences poured in across social media following a massive October 2026 fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, but as users searched for authentic images of the disaster, one clip spread online of a massive explosion that did not take place in the western province. AFP determined using reverse image searches and geolocation techniques that the video has been online since at least August, when it was published in connection to a blast at an Italian arms factory outside Rome.
