Drivers Protest Attempted Foodpanda Buyout – TaiwanPlus

Food delivery workers are protesting a possible buyout of the Foodpanda delivery platform by Southeast Asian rival Grab, saying the takeover could undermine fair competition. Foodpanda’s top local competitor, Uber, is a major stockholder in Grab, and Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission has already blocked Uber from an attempted buyout. Protesters also say that Grab’s AI research centers are in China and could provide Beijing with detailed plans of Taiwanese roads. The Commission is set to rule on the buyout bid on October 27.
